Un-intended increase in the body weight is
termed as ‘weight gain’ which happens when the person consumes
excess calories than calories required or burnt by the body
which results in enhanced fat storage in the body. Majority of
the urban population almost in every corner of the world are
found to be overweight or obese. The metabolism function in the
body inhibits gradually as we grow older which in turn may
increase weight if do not minimize food ingestion or do
sufficient physical activities / exercise.
The other reasons of weight gain may be due to certain endocrine
ailments such as Cushing’s syndrome or Hyperthyroidism. Besides
these, it is also found that heart or lungs disorders may also
end up in weight gain in some typical cases. The progressive
pregnant woman may also exhibit weight gain, whereas the
episodic weight gain may be recorded during specific menstrual
period cycles too. However, the abrupt weight gain directs to
the hazardous fluid withholding.
Some more leads that may cause weight gain include: Over eating
habits without required physical exercises or activities;
improper eating habits like high-carbohydrates and high-calorie
diets; certain emotional features like guiltiness, depression or
anxiety; aging related reduced metabolism functions; quitting of
smoking; alcohol consumption in excess; preliminary
hypothyroidism; endocrine ailments such as Cushing’s syndrome or
polycystic ovary syndrome; certain typical drugs consumption
like corticosteroids or cyproheptadine or lithium or sedatives
or anesthetics or phenothiazines and tricyclic antidepressants;
and/or some medicines that enhances fluid holdings causing edema
– the abdominal pool of fluids in the tissues. |
